Amado "Sonny" Narvaez

born October 25, 1946
in Norfolk, Virginia

    If the child in the picture above (the black and white photo) looks a little somber, it's probably because from a very early age I began to ponder the meaning of existence. I remember sitting all by myself in the front of our Norfolk home wondering how the universe came into being. I have at times dreamed of being an astronomer, an astronaut, and a writer. If you think about it, an astronomer ponders the origin of the universe, an astronaut explores the universe, and a writer creates universes through the power of imagination. My favorite quote comes from Carl Sagan: "Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known." The picture below will give you an idea of "where" that "somewhere" may be.

    On the way to achieving my dreams, I have been an educator and a magician, with occasional forays into the worlds of writing and illustrating. If you have a high speed Internet connection (or don't mind waiting a few minutes) you can view one one of my magic performances here.

    I wrote this poem for my mother in 1971 as a birthday present:

For Mom

Allow these birthday greetings to
Express the love I know for you;
And let the love that they express
Make manifold your happiness.
Allow that happiness to touch
The ones who care for you so much.
But most of all to touch the one
Most proud to be his mother's son.
